One block from the beach
Oak Bluffs Town Beach
One block from our front door, at the end of Pequot Avenue, this beach is typically calm. It is great for relaxing, walking, swimming or collecting seashells. We are happy to loan you a beach towel or umbrella (first-come, first-served).
Inkwell Beach
The Inkwell is a popular and historically significant portion of Oak Bluffs Town Beach. It is a block farther to the right (or South), so within two blocks of the Pequot Hotel.
East Chop Beach
Located just to the west of the Oak Bluffs Harbor entrance, this small beach provides wonderful views of Nantucket Sound and colorful boating activity. Public access is along a footpath from the East Chop Yacht Club, just outside downtown Oak Bluffs. East Chop Beach is a 10-12 minute walk from the Pequot Hotel — even quicker by bicycle.
Joseph Sylvia State Beach
Two miles of pristine public beach stretch along Beach Road between Oak Bluffs and Edgartown. Access is by bicycle, car, or public bus. From this beach, you can cross the street to the shore and pocket beaches of Sengekontacket Pond. Both the pond and Nantucket Sound are ideal places for swimming and windsurfing. Shell fishing is allowed by special permit only. Permits may be purchased at the Oak Bluffs Town Hall on School Street in the Board of Selectmen Office.
South Beach
This is the primary “ocean beach” on Martha’s Vineyard — accessible by public bus, car, or bicycle. It is a delightful 8.5-mile bike ride from the hotel, almost exclusively along bike paths from Oak Bluffs to Edgartown and South Beach beyond. If you would like our help arranging a bike rental, with convenient pick-up and drop-off right here at the Pequot, just ask.
